A home on Cross Lake northwest of Shreveport was heavily damaged by fire Tuesday afternoon.
More than a dozen units from 2 Shreveport fire stations were ultimately called to battle the flames at a home in the 2900 block of Risinger Drive, off of South Lakeshore Drive.
The first units were called just before 3 p.m., and arrived to find heavy smoke coming out of the house, which is set far enough back from the road that it required 1,000 feet of firehouse to reach.
SFD Assistant Chief Fred Sanders says there was one person in the home, an elderly woman, who suffered some smoke inhalation but was able to escape.
Now under control, it appears the fire started in the center of the home and burned through the roof.
The cause is under investigation.
