On Tuesday, U.S. Congressman Jeb Hensarling spoke out about the Kaufman County murders.
Just two months after Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was shot and killed in broad daylight right outside the Kaufman County courthouse, the county's District Attorney, Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, were found shot to death in their home in Forney.
"Well, it is absolutely a frightening situation," said Hensarling, who knew the McLellands.
Hensarling said he had visited with Mr. McLelland just a few months ago, so it is a case that hits very close to home.
"It doesn't appear to be just an attack on them, it appears to be an attack on our entire criminal justice system," Hensarling said.
He believes the resources of county, state, and federal government need to be called in to work this investigation.
"This is unprecedented. My heart goes out to the family," said Hensarling, who plans to attend the memorial service for the McLellands on Thursday.
Hensarling said although he is not an criminal investigator, he will do everything he can as a congressman to support their efforts and get to the bottom of this and ensure justice is done.
"I know many of the judges there; I know many of the elected officials there. Clearly they are fearful for their lives; they are fearful for their family's lives. And we are going to pledge whatever resources are necessary, however long it takes to have justice be done because again, this probably not just an attack on one public servant or one family, this is an attack upon the American justice system," Hensarling said.
