MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) -

A prayer vigil for an East Texas boy set to have life-changing surgery will be held Friday night.

Friends and family in Marshall, Texas will gather to pray for Hunter Tomlin. The second-grader was born with a rare illness called neuro-fibro mitosis. The illness has caused a tumor to grow around Hunter's eye.

Hunter is scheduled to have the tumor removed at the Children's Hospital in Dallas next week.

The prayer vigil for Hunter starts at 6 p.m. at Telegraph Park in Downtown Marshall. A fundraising benefit will be held right after the vigil at Charlie's Backyard Bar located at 303 North Columbus Street. There will be a $10 cover charge that will be donated to the Tomlin family.

An account has also been set up at Texas National Bank in Marshall. You can donate to the "Hunter Tomlin Benefit" to help the family with medical costs.
