TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Eager eyes stared at the candy filled fields at Tyler's Glass Recreation Center Twilight Easter Egg Hunt.

Children waited patiently on Thursday night for the chance to fill their baskets.

Organizers say around $3,000 worth of candy was set out for the hunters, around $2,800 of it was donated.

Hershey's Kisses, suckers, Jolly Ranchers, and Reese's were some of the favorite candies being hunted.

Participants also had a simple strategy to get the most eggs.

"My plan was to run to grab the most eggs," says Ivan Hernandez, an egg hunter at the event.

Organizers say around 500 children, from 3 to 10 years old, hunted for eggs.

"It was a blast. They got balloons, they got to hunt eggs, it was just so fun," says one East Texas family at the event.

The Easter bunny watched the hunt and gave out hugs but he got mixed reviews.

"He's cute," said one little girl.

"I don't like him," said another.

Organizers say the hunt relieves the stress of some parents.

"It helps them come out here, just enjoy the outdoors, the park, enjoy watching their kids smile and have fun and that's what it's really all about," says Ann Santana,  a supervisor at the Glass Recreation Center in Tyler.

This is the 12th year the Glass Recreation Center has put on the egg hunt.
