MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Gunfire came too close for comfort for one Murfreesboro family when bullets shattered their child's window.

No one was inside the bedroom at their home on Axelwood Drive on Friday night, but the couple who lives there told police after their daughter noticed broken glass they then discovered something really troubling.

A bullet had traveled through their little girl's wall, door and through her winter hat.

"I'll make an extra effort to be on the lookout for people here who shouldn't be here," said neighbor Frank Burgess.

According to the Murfreesboro police report, a neighbor spotted someone driving away in a dark colored car - possibly a Maxima or Camry - shortly after those shots were fired.

This is just the latest scare with gunfire near children in recent days. Last week, someone opened fire in broad daylight outside a home on Wingate Street. Two babies and a 12-year-old boy were inside the at the time, and one of the bullets even grazed the 12-year-old in the shooting investigators believe was mistakenly targeting the previous residents.

If you have information on either of these cases, call police.
