'Olympus Has Fallen' opened with a strong second-place showing in theaters this weekend.

The action thriller drew $30.5 million in ticket sales, behind the animated caveman comedy, 'The Croods,'which brought in $44.7 million.

In 'Olympus,' Gerard Butler leads the all-star cast that includes Aaron Eckhart as the president, Morgan Freeman and Angela Basset. The plot centers on North Korean terrorists taking over the White House.

Filmed in Shreveport and Bossier City in the summer of 2012, the movie brought Butler back to the area for a second time since filming the romantic comedy 'Playing the Field' with Jessica Biel. Now, he plays an ex-Secret Service agent fighting to defend the Capitol building from terrorists.

Critics are comparing the movie to Die Hard, for better or for worse, with some calling it a "rehash."

That 'Die Hard' feel was apparently intentional on the part of the movie's producers, however.

Shreveport's Millenium Films president Diego Martinez mentioned it back with the film was in pre-production. "The tag line I've seen is 'Die Hard in the White House,' is what they're calling it," so it should be very very exciting," said Martinez in May of 2012.

(According to IMDb, the official tag lines for the movie are "We are never stronger than when we are tested," and "When our flag falls or nation will rise.")

Whether it's a ripoff  or simply echoing the successful formula of a loner good-guy becoming the last line of defense in a building commandeered by evil-doers, there seems to be little dispute that the movie is action-packed.

Movie-goers so far seem to be buying in to that action-packed formula. According to the Associated Press, the opening far exceeded distributor FilmDistrict's expectations, which were in the under-$20 million range.
