South Marshall Elementary School lockdown lifted

Posted: Updated:
MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) -

A spokesperson for Marshall ISD says there was never any direct safety threat to students or staff at South Marshall Elementary school, following a lockdown there on Thursday afternoon.

According to David Weaver, the ISD public information officer, the principal called for the lockdown as a precautionary measure, in response to "an issue with a parent."

During this time, the outside doors of the school were locked as classes continued.

It's not clear how long the lockdown was in place before parents were allowed to pick their children up.

Marshall Police are on the scene.

In a statement released at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, district spokesman David Weaver said, "South Marshall Elementary was placed on lockdown earlier this afternoon by school officials as a precaution to secure students and staff. There was no direct safety threat to students or staff at South Marshall. Local law enforcement were notified and after further investigation it was determined that students and staff were never in any imminent danger. Classes continued, students were dismissed safely and on time and the after-school ACE Program continued as scheduled."
