Victim in fatal Upshur County accident identified

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An accident in northern Upshur County on Farm to Market 2454 north of FM 2088 left one person dead on Thursday morning.

According to Department of Public Safety, the crash just before 9:30 a.m. when a Brookshire's Grocery truck collided with a Chevrolet Suburban. 

Benjamin Ponse, 27, of Pittsburg, was traveling north in the Suburban on FM 2454 when he entered the southbound lane, striking the semi driven by Marcos Cornelio, 39, of Tyler. 

Ponse died at the scene at 10:15 and was pronounced by Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Arthur Ray. His body was taken to Crowley Funeral Home in Gilmer. 

Cornelio was treated at the scene and released. 

DPS officials say Ponse was wearing a seatbelt. No charges will be filed.
