Tyler firefighter injured while battling structure fire

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Tyler Fire Department responded to the scene of a two-alarm structure fire at a duplex at 318 Saunders Ave. The initial call was received at 1:40 a.m. Six engines and one Ladder Company, along with a district chief and an investigator, responded to the scene.

Heavy fire conditions in the one-story residential structure were reported upon arrival at the scene. Firefighters ensured the property was clear of occupants and quickly brought the fire under control. Two families were displaced as a result of the fire and the Red Cross was notified for assistance.

Investigators believe the fire originated in the front of the structure in an area being used as a bedroom. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Tyler Fire Marshal's Office.

One firefighter suffered second degree burns while battling the blaze.  He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and released earlier today. Additional details will be released as they become available.
