A teacher accused of sexually assaulting a mentally challenged student will have to go to trial on sex-related charges.
A Caddo Parish judge ruled on Tuesday that enough probable cause exists for Jeremy Alan Pierce, 33, to stand trial. Pierce went into his preliminary hearing on charges aggravated rape, sexual battery, molestation of a juvenile and prohibited sexual contact between an educator and a student.
If found guilty of molestation of an individual with a mental disability, Pierce could get a maximum sentence of 99 years in prison.
Pierce's next court date is set for April, though no exact date was given.
Pierce worked at Port City Christian Academy.
Detectives say the original offense dates back to 1996 when Pierce was 17 and committed a sexual assault on a six-year-old girl.
