A more precise and faster generation of cancer radiotherapy is now available at East Texas Medical Center Cancer Institute.
TrueBeam radiotherapy rotates around the patient to deliver radiation beams that are computer-synchronized to compensate for the movements of the patient's breathing, ensuring that the beam only reaches the targeted tumor.
Doctor Heidi McKellar is a board-certified radiation oncologist and medical director of the ETMC Cancer Institute.
She says that TrueBeam can also deliver treatments up to fifty percent faster than previous generations of radiotherapy.
"The most important thing about this machine though, is that it's faster, it's more precise and for certain types of tumors that we are going to be using it for that have some motion involved, you can more carefully follow the movement of where you want the radiation to go so that you are not treating normal tissue to high doses," Dr. McKellar said.
Doctors said TrueBeam provides more noninvasive options for treating complex cases in the lung, live, prostate, breast, abdomen, head and neck.
