DPS still seeking man after weekend chase

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Cherokee County Department of Public Safety says they are still looking for the man who escaped after a chase Saturday night. According to DPS Sergeant Patrick Dark, Trooper Tim Hatch was working a routine traffic stop around 7:00 when the chase began.

Hatch pulled over an older model Lexus on Highway 110 near New Summerfield. When Hatch asked the driver for his license, he became suspicious when the driver fumbled around in his car. Hatch then asked the man to step out of the car at which point the driver took off.

Dark said the chase lasted about six minutes before the driver was able to lose troopers near FM 2064.

The driver and two female passengers, identified as 24-year-old Caitlin Dolney of Tyler and 24-year-old Brittney Hawthorne of Palestine, then stopped at a house on County Road 4912 and FM 135.

The three asked residents if they could hide them from police. When the residents refused and called police, the three took off on foot.

A DPS helicopter was flown out to the area to help search for the three suspects. Around 9:00 p.m., Dolney and Hawthorne were captured by DPS about a quarter of a mile away from the house.

The man, who was not identified by DPS, is still at large.
