SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A suspect in the carjacking of a Shreveport woman's car with a child inside turned himself in on Saturday.

Authorities say 18-year-old Zerquario D. Reddix turned himself in to Caddo Parish deputies and was taken to the Caddo Correctional Center.

Shreveport police say the incident took place just before 11 a.m. on Thursday outside a daycare in the 6700 block of Melara Avenue in West Shreveport.

Meshona Houston says she was dropping one of her children off inside the daycare when she looked through the window and saw a man getting into her car. She ran outside and grabbed the driver's side door handle of the black Mercedes C230, but was unable to hold on as the man sped away with her 7-year-old daughter in the backseat.

The car was abandoned just a few blocks away on Amherst Street, where the little girl was found shaken up but unharmed.

Reddix managed to elude authorities, reportedly running between several backyards and possibly being bitten by a dog before getting back to a getaway car police believe he had left parked on Quilen, near the intersection with Melara.

Police say evidence found in the stolen car helped lead them to identify Reddix as their suspect.
The warrant for Reddix was issued before 3 p.m. Friday, charging him with 1 count of carjacking and a $300,000 bond.
