TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) -

Cooper Tire and Rubber Company's plant in Texarkana, Arkansas reached a major milestone Thursday, producing its 350 millionth tire.

Cooper has been in Texarkana for nearly 49 years. The first tire came off the production line on April 16, 1964. It took 24 years for the plant to produce its first million tires.

Now the company says it produces 7 million tires every year. That's 14 tires per minute.

"That is quite an achievement. This is the most tires produced by a Cooper Tire facility. 350 million tires. It is kind of exciting for me. We would not be here today without all the support of the local state and all the dedicated employees we have here at the plant," Manager Scott Coles said during a ceremony to mark the occasion.

Cooper is the largest non-government employer in Texarkana, Arkansas, with approximately 1,700 workers.
