Illegal interstate U-turn causes wreck, driver cited

WEBSTER PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

One driver has been cited for her part in a wreck Monday afternoon that was caused by another driver crossing an interstate median in Webster Parish.

It happened about 2:30 p.m. on I-20 eastbound near mile post 41, just before the Dixie Inn exit.

Louisiana State Police say 25-year-old Stephanie Wise, the driver of a Chevy Cavalier, was following too closely when a Chevy Silverado in front of her suddenly slowed down for another truck making an illegal U-turn. The Silverado was driven by 30-year-old Gregory Anderson.

Wise swerved to avoid hitting the Silverado, only to end up swerving back into the inside lane and clipping Anderson's truck anyway. That sent Wise's car spinning and the Silverado rolling into the median. Both landed upright and no one was seriously injured. Wise has been cited for following at an unsafe distance.

The driver of the black truck that crossed the median did not stop.

"State Police want to take this opportunity to remind motorists that it is illegal to cross the median or crossover on any interstate highway system, as it is extremely dangerous," says LSP Tpr. Matt Harris. "Drivers will be cited if caught."
