SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Shreveport Police have identified the suspect arrested Thursday after a high-speed chase through a school zone in Shreveport's Highland neighborhood.
The chase ended in a wreck involving three other cars. It happened just after 3 p.m., just as school was letting out.
Police say it involved a golden-colored SUV that was seen exceeding the speed limit. SPD Cpl. Marcus Hines says that when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver kept on going, allegedly at more than twice the speed limit at times. Hines says the driver of the SUV, identified as 30-year-old Tony English, led officers through a school zone near Creswell Elementary.
The chase ended when English ran a red light at the intersection of Kings Hwy. and Barret St., striking 2 other cars. The drivers of both of those cars were taken to the hospital to be checked out. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. An elementary school-aged child was also in one of those vehicles, but was not injured.
A third vehicle was also struck in the course of the chase, causing minor damage to that vehicle and no injuries to the driver.
English was was caught and handcuffed immediately following the crash, and taken to Shreveport Police headquarters.
Cpl. Hines says marijuana was found in his vehicle.
English is now charged with three counts of negligent injuring, possession of marijuana, 3rd offense, driving under suspension, speeding in a school zone and flight in a vehicle.
