Firefighters battle Oil City brush fire

Windy conditions may have contributed to a woods fire in Caddo Parish late Monday morning that burned at least 20 - 25 acres.

It happened around 10 a.m. in a field along Highway 1 in Oil City. Firefighters were able to respond quickly from Fire District 7, since the station is just across the road. Fire District 8 also provided mutual aid.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry also assisted, bringing in earth-moving equipment to plow fire lines to keep the flames from spreading.

No buildings were threatened and no one was injured.

The fire is believed to have started around a tank battery. The cause is still under investigation, but it's possible that gusty winds brought down power lines.

The same area was affected by the wildfires in the summer of 2011.
