FORT WORTH, TX -

The no. 2 LSU Shreveport Pilots dropped the series opener at LaGrave Field 5-1 to the Texas Wesleyan Rams on Friday afternoon.

Texas Wesleyan (14-7, 2-2 RRAC) ripped five hits and scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they out hit the Pilots nine to four. LSUS (12-5, 3-1 RRAC) scored their only run in the sixth inning on an RBI-single from Zack LeJeune who was the only Pilot with more than one hit as he was two for four. Kyle Pearson and Kade Billeaudeaux had the other two hits.

The Pilots tried to start a rally putting two runners on in the eighth inning but K. J. Semien was thrown out at the plate by Dusteyn Suttle, the newly inserted left fielder for Texas Wesleyan, to end the inning and the Pilots last attempt at a threat.

Rory Young (2-1) suffered the loss for the Pilots tossing six innings allowing nine hits, five earned runs, one walk, and three strike outs. Derek Vaughn (2-1) gathered the win for the Rams with six innings of work allowing two hits, one run, four walks and four strikeouts.

Connor Zamora was the middle reliever for the Rams as he struck out three of the five batters he faced before giving way to Nolan Barbee who struck out two over the final inning and two thirds.

The series will conclude tomorrow with a double header beginning at noon.
