BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Following a flurry of courtroom activity, sixth-seeded Salmen High is now playing second-seeded St. Michael the Archangel of Baton Rouge in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association's Class 4A girls basketball semifinal game. The game started at 4:30 p.m. Friday just minutes after a ruling by an appeals court judge.

Days ago, the LHSAA ruled Vandebilt High School was out of the playoffs because of a potential ineligible player on the team. VHS actually reported the alleged ineligible player to LHSAA. With VHS out of the playoffs, Salmen was put in.

The parents of the alleged ineligible player went to a judge in Houma to get a temporary restraining order on the ban from the semifinal game, which put VHS back in the semifinal game.

Friday afternoon, minutes before the game was about to begin, the First Circuit Court of Appeals dissolved the restraining order that allowed VHS to play in the game. The appeals court says the judge in Houma did not have the jurisdiction to get involved.

Once the restraining order was dissolved, Salmen was back in the semifinal game.
