SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
About a month after Caddo Parish Commissioner Joyce Bowman stopped by KSLA's station to share some good news, there is word of a setback.
The Gamma Knife surgery planned to treat the cancer that's spread to her brain has now been called off.
Bowman recently told KSLA's Domonique Benn that her lung cancer had spread to her brain. She had been counting on a special type of brain surgery to kill the cancer cells in her brain.
But KSLA has learned that doctors have told Bowman that they will not be able to perform the surgery because of the aggressive stage of the cancer.
Friends of Bowman are planning a prayer vigil for her next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Morningstar Baptist Church in Shreveport. Bowman plans to be there.
Organizers say they'd like to place the church to show their support.
