HELSINKI and BARCELONA Spain, February 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
- Most OEMs Support SDXC and exFAT in Top-of-the-Line Models
Tuxera Inc., the market leader in interoperable file system technology is excited to announce that majority of OEM devices present at MWC 2013 are integrated with exFAT file system, which is needed to support the high capacity SDXC memory card standard. Over 50% of all smartphones and tablet manufacturers ship devices that can use SDXC and microSDXC memory cards. The number has exceeded 80% in technology-driven countries such as Japan and Korea.
SDXC, the latest SD memory card standard, allows for extending device storage with 64GB, 128GB and higher capacity flash memory cards up to 2TB, significantly improving what consumers can do with their devices. The standard requires a new file system called exFAT. Tuxera is the first and leading exFAT file system developer on Android boosting SDXC adoption. Tuxera exFAT is being shipped in a wide range of Android high-end devices thanks to its swift integration, high reliability and unbeatable performance.
"Radical improvements in built-in cameras, the speed of data transfer, and the rise of app development have quickly changed how people use and need storage. Portable SD memory cards are value for money for both consumers and manufacturers. Devices can be designed more cost-effectively and consumers have more freedom of choice," commented Mikko Välimäki, Tuxera CEO.
Out of the three major smartphone operating systems only Android devices ship with removable storage by standard. For example the popular Apple iOS devices iPhone and iPad have no method of expanding the built-in internal flash memory. On the contrary, just looking at the new device releases at MWC 2013 portable, extendable SDXC storage has become a de facto standard for the cool Android phones:
