Homer residents not pleased about police department cut

HOMER, LA (KSLA) -

Nearly 300 people gathered Monday night in Homer to discuss disbanding the police department, which received a standing ovation at the meeting.

Residents are not so happy about the town's plans to shuttle the Homer Police Department in Claiborne Parish. It is set to shut down on March 1.

"We're losing anchor stores such as Walmart and KFC. How are we going to attract any businesses to our community if we disband our police department," asked one concerned Homer resident.

The mayor says the Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office will take over law enforcement duties in Homer. She cites budget concerns for the drastic change.
