SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport Police say an alleged dispute between two men ended with an exchange of gunfire Thursday afternoon, and at least one of the men will face charges after his release from the hospital.

The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. at Pinkey's Corner at Poland and Alabama streets in the Lakeside neighborhood. That's where officers say they found Xavier O'Neal, 18, of Shreveport, suffering from a single gunshot wound to his lower body.

While on the scene, authorities soon learned of a second man with a gunshot wound. They say they found Christopher Chevalier, 27, of Shreveport, suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the leg.

Both men were taken to LSU Medical Center, where O'Neal was listed in critical condition while Chevalier was listed in good condition.

Authorities say their preliminary investigation reveals that, before the shooting, Chevalier and O'Neal mouthed off at each other. Chevalier allegedly produced a handgun and fired at least one round, striking O'Neal.

But officers are unsure about whether O'Neal returned fire or if someone who was with O'Neal at the time fired shots at Chevalier, wounding him.

Detectives have charged Chevalier with a single count of aggravated second-degree battery. Once Chevalier is released, he is expected to be booked on the charge.

As their investigation continues, authorities ask that anyone with information about the incident contact Caddo Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373 or at lockemup.org.
