SHREVEPORT, La. - The Southern Arkansas Muleriders scored five runs in the top of the ninth to slip past the no. 2 LSU Shreveport Pilots 10-5 on Tuesday night at Pilot Field. The game been tied three different times until the last inning as the two teams combined stranded 25 runners; 16 by SAU and nine by LSUS.

LSUS (8-4) used nine different pitchers including four in the ninth as the Pilots could not get the outs they needed in the final inning. Jonathan Burnett (0-1) suffered the loss after working a perfect eighth but allowed the first two on in the ninth that led to the game-winning run; of eight relief pitchers none were in longer than Burnet's inning and a third.

The Pilot pitching staff walked nine and beaned three more and committed three errors defensively.

SAU's starter Philip Menou (2-0) may fall asleep on the way back to Magnolia as he tossed 134 pitches and went the distance to earn his second win of the season. He scattered six hits allowing five runs, three earned, two walks and four strikeouts. Only two Pilot hitters had multi-hits: Kade Billeaudeaux (2-4) and Kym Barthel (2-4).

Billeaudeaux drove in Pearson to tie the game at two in the third inning and Barthel's double set up the tying and go ahead run in the sixth. Barthel also drove in the game-tying run in the eighth at five.

Southern Arkansas (9-3) pounded 13 hits, eight of which were off LSUS starter Caleb Olson who tossed five innings surrendering three earned runs, three walks, and had three strikeouts. The Muleriders stranded 16 runners and committed three errors in the field.

The Pilots will head into Red River Athletic Conference play on Friday night at 6 p.m. against Texas College at Pilot Field. The double header of the series will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Even though all but one of the Pilot pitchers pitched tonight other than the weekend starters, they all should be good to go this weekend since no one threw more than 23 pitches.
