SHELBY COUNTY, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Can you tell the difference between a marijuana leaf and a buckeye leaf? According to one woman driving through the Mid-South, neither could law enforcement officers on I-40.
This Ohio State fan wanted to show her support with a Buckeyes sticker on the back of her car, but she never thought it would get her pulled over.
Bonnie Jonas-Boggioni, 65, and her husband were driving from Texas to Columbus, Ohio to attend a funeral when they were pulled over in Shelby County on I-40. She thought it might have been because she was going 72 miles per hour, but the officer did not talk about her speeding.
"A car from another jurisdiction called ahead to let us know you were coming and that we better check it out," said Jonas-Boggioni in reference to what the officer said to her.
It turned out that the officer thought the Buckeyes sticker was actually a sticker of a pot leaf.
"Then he said, 'Well, you need to take that off,'" she explained. When she asked if she had to take it off just while she was in Tennessee, she said the officer replied, 'No. Forever.'
After a few minutes, she and her husband were let go. Although, she did not receive a ticket and thought it was funny, she was not happy about it.
"We were still kind of laughing until I got here, and then I thought, 'Now that's not right,'" added Jonas-Boggioni.
She wrote about her experience to several local papers and the story went viral.
