SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport man is behind bars after sideswiping a Shreveport Police patrol unit early Monday morning.

Authorities say it happened just after midnight on North Market Street near I-220. They say 23-year-old Robert Charles Allen, Jr. was driving southbound on North Market Street in a Ford Mustang when he allegedly nearly ran another driver that was traveling north off the road.

That driver flagged down a Shreveport Police officer nearby to report the wreckless driving.

As the officer attempted to pursue the car, Allen allegedly hit an SUV and sideswiped the SPD unit before fleeing on I20W.

Allen eventually lost control of the car and crashed into a ditch near Hilry Huckabee Avenue and North Lakeshore Drive.

Police say the no one was seriously injured. Allen was booked into the Shreveport City Jail and charged with DWI and driving under suspension for a previous offense. A female passenger in the Mustang was not charged.
