THIBODAUX, LA -

Nicholls State's strong shooting helped lead the Colonels past the Northwestern State women's basketball team 67-50 Saturday afternoon in Southland Conference action.

Nicholls (16-8, 8-5 SLC) shot 48 percent (23-48) from the field including a 54 percent shot outburst in the second half alone.  Northwestern State (9-15, 5-9 SLC) was 18-for-53 from the field and 4-of-19 from behind the arc.

"I felt like our kids competed and came out with a lot of energy," said co-head coach Brooke Stoehr.  "It was one of those days you have to be able to make shots, and when you don't make shots on the road it's going to be difficult to win.  I'm proud of the way we competed and the effort we gave."

KK Babin (16), LiAnn McCarthy (15), Emani White (15), and Alisha Allen (10) all scored in double-figures and accounted for 56 of the Colonel's 67 points.

Three Lady Demons scored in double-digits including Jasmine Bradley who had 16 and Jasmine Upchurch and Keisha Lee who each had 11 points. Bradley had nine rebounds on the day.

Nicholls led Northwestern State in rebounds, 33-30. Nicholls had 10 offensive and 23 defensive boards, and the Lady Demons had 12 and 18 respectively.

Northwestern State (16) had more tunovers than Nicholls (13), but also had more assists than the Colonels leading 12-to-9.

Northwestern State will play the final game of its three-game road trip Tuesday when they take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5 o'clock.  The Lady Demons return home Feb. 23 for a noon matchup with New Orleans.
