PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) -

The police report about a child abduction reveals few new details about what happened to a young girl early Monday morning.

Monday, the Palestine Police Department said a child and her father reported that she was taken while waiting for the school bus on Brierwood Drive in Palestine.

The police report says the kidnapper, who approached the victim, was armed with a handgun. The victim told police she was waiting for the school bus when a stranger approached her and took her to a house without her consent. Palestine Police say the child told them she was able to escape. The report also lists another charge for the suspected kidnapper, indecency with  child, in addition to aggravated kidnapping.

According to police, the victim was checked out by medics Monday and is reportedly doing well.

Police are still working on the details of the investigation, and said people in Palestine should be careful, but not afraid.

Palestine ISD is remaining in contact with police through the investigation. Tuesday, the superintendent said, depending on the outcome of the police investigation, they'll determine what action, if any, they need to take regarding the incident. Currently, they're waiting on more information from police. The superintendent also added that the bus the child was supposed to be on was running on-time yesterday, so she was not left behind by the bus or made vulnerable to strangers by any fault of the district.
