Thursday's KSLA spotlight is on Shreveport native Huddie William "Leadbelly" Ledbetter.
Ledbetter was born on a plantation outside of Mooringsport in 1885. by the time he was 21, he was making his living playing the 12-string guitar throughout Louisiana and Texas.
An area in Shreveport know as St. Paul Bottoms was later named Ledbetter Heights in his honor.
Ledbetter died in 1949.
In 2004, he was inducted into the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Walk of Stars. A bronze statue of Ledbetter was dedicated in 1993 in front of the Shreve Memorial Library's main branch in downtown Shreveport.
