Black History Moments: Otis Whiten Emanuel

KSLA recognizes Mrs. Otis Whiten Emanuel in its latest Black History Moment.

On Monday, the Shreve Memorial Library Wallette Branch dedicated its meeting room in her honor. Emanual was the first professional African-American Librarian at what was formerly called Shreve Memorial Library Lakeside Branch. Now it's the Mavice Colley Wallette Branch on Hearne Avenue.

Emanuel served as librarian there during the 1950s and remains a major supporter of Shreve Memorial Library to this day.

Emanuel is the mother of Caddo Parish First Judicial District Judges Leon Emanuel and Ramona Emanuel.
