ArkLaTex native reaches NFL peak in Super Bowl win

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Bobbie Williams is the talk of his Jefferson, Texas home after the Baltimore Ravens offensive guard helped his team win the Super Bowl. Even after making it to the top of the game, people from Williams' past say he still remembers where it all started.

"I text him about how proud I was. He texted me back and said 'Coach, that really means something to me.'," Jefferson High School Coach Jerry Bennett says.

Even with the stress, and work that goes into getting ready for a Super Bowl, the bond between high school coach and student cannot be broken. Bennett says this local boy is a big deal.

"We've never had one in the Super Bowl."

Williams started his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2000. In 2004 he went to the Cincinnati Bengals and in 2012 he moved to the Ravens. Williams' 13-year career has taken him all over the country, and it all started with a young man's will to overcome.

"He had bad luck. He broke his leg in the eighth grade and just some different things. It took him a little while. As pretty as he was on the hoof, it took him a little while to develop," Bennett says.

Bennett says Williams was a powerhouse for the Jefferson High Bulldogs because of his hard work and dedication.

"He comes up and put his arms around me and said 'Coach, run the ball behind me this half.' And, we did. The kid got about 170 in the second half. We won the district to go 10-0," Bennett says.
