Big game, big parade mean big weekend for ArkLaTex taxis

SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

Many people will be calling for a taxi this Super Bowl Sunday. And around the ArkLaTex, the demand for taxi service will go beyond just the big game.

KSLA's Jeff Ferrell reports that life will be doubly busy this weekend for taxi cab companies for two reasons: the Super Bowl and the Krewe of Centaur Parade on Saturday.

Action Taxi Cab of Bossier city says they typically see about 1,800 calls in any given 24-hour period. But the company expects up to 3,000 calls for pick-up this weekend.

Even though there may be more taxis on the road, the wait time might actually increase because of the demand for service. Typically, the average wait is about 10 to 15 minutes. The national average is sometimes three times as long.

"If it takes us 30 minutes to 40 minutes, we still beat the national average. But it's longer than what we're used to waiting," says David McFarlin, owner Action Taxi.

Action Taxi's rates are set by the Bossier City Council. It costs $3 to get into the vehicle and then $2 per mile after that.

Action says it will have more than 60 drivers out on Sunday, before, during and after the game. But for those who call for a ride, it'll be worth every penny to avoid the dangers of drinking and driving.
