SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Haughton Middle School students presented a check and delivered gifts to young patients at the Children's Hospital at LSU Health Shreveport Thursday morning.

The school recently held a fund-raiser for the hospital in honor of Matthew Kirkhart, a former student who died in a car accident in the fall. Matthew's two brothers and mother received care at LSU Medical Center following the wreck.

The school collected toys, games, puzzles, coloring books, art supplies and other gifts which they delivered to pediatric patients. The hospital also received a check for $1,367.

The students were so involved in the fund-raising effort that a lottery had to be held to determine which 10 students could come to the hospital, accompanied by two teachers, to present the check and deliver the gifts.
