TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
If you're looking for something unique to do this weekend, look no further -- the Tyler Rose City Kiwanis Club is hosting the 46th annual Antiques and Vintage Collectibles Show at Harvey Hall in Tyler.
Organizers say the beauty of the show is you just don't know what you'll end up finding - and the Kiwanis take the money they earn from this show each year to help several local charities.
"It's a show and sale," said David Lockridge, the secretary for the Tyler Rose City Kiwanis Club. "You can come out, we've got vintage glass, jewelry, furniture, vintage collectibles, and people can come out and take a look, kind of come through and take a walk through memory lane and also purchase some of these to take back home to add to their collections."
Forty-two vendors from six states are in Tyler this weekend for the Antiques and Vintage Collectibles Show, including Carolyn and Ray Swan of San Antonio, who have been attending this show for 15 years.
"You never know what you're going to find, and it's always a new day," said Carolyn. "And I'm so glad that we've been in the business, because I never would have seen all these beautiful things otherwise."
More importantly, the Kiwanis use a popular hobby to support good causes - they usually earn $7,000 to $8,000 from each show, money they use to support local children's charities and events like the annual Spirit of Christmas food drive.
"We'll collect food, sort it, box it, and distribute it out to needy families that are being assisted through Meals on Wheels," Lockridge said. "This past year we provided about a 30 to 35 pound box to roughly 600 families."
The show is going on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25 and 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Harvey Hall in Tyler. Tickets are $5 each and one ticket will admit you as many times as you'd like during the weekend.
