SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
A former Shreveport city hall executive convicted of forcible rape and abuse of office wants his conviction thrown out.
Rick Seaton, the former assistant CAO for Shreveport, was convicted in early 2012 of raping an 18-year-old woman at Government Plaza in Shreveport after he gave her a ride from the Independence Bowl in 2010. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Seaton claims the sex was consensual.
On Tuesday, his legal team submitted an appeal to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, arguing there was insufficient evidence presented in Seaton's bench trial to support a conviction.
Three appellate judges heard oral arguments from both sides.
The arguments will be reviewed, and a decision could be made as early as Feb. 27.
