The winter flu germs seem to be causing a record number of cases across the country and here in the Ark-La-Tex. Germs are everywhere. Your work place is one spot in particular you have to be careful of, as a bunch of people are cooped up together. One of the places with the most germs is your keyboard at work. People share computers and phones meaning more germs.
The flu is now widespread in all but 3 states. Louisiana has not seen any child deaths, but at least 6 children have died in Texas. Nine people have died from the flu in Arkansas, that number includes one child.
Highly visited places have the most germs. That includes places like ATMs, gas pumps, and public mailboxes. Spots like refrigerator handles and microwaves also harbor large numbers of germs. An effective way to avoid getting the flu is to wash your hands as often as possible. Getting vaccinated is your best shot at avoiding the flu. You can do that Tuesday at the Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the Red Cross. They are hosting a flu vaccination clinic at 10 o'clock in the morning until 5. That is at the Red Cross office on Brook Hollow Drive. A flu shot costs $25 dollars.
