SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
A Shreveport man has filed a lawsuit against the City of Shreveport after reportedly being run over by a SporTran bus on September 4.
The video from bus cameras, provided to KSLA News 12 by Johnnie Williams' attorney, David Szwak, shows Williams walking up to the bus and knocking on the bus doors, which were closed.
The video also shows the bus driver looking at the man, then driving away. Passengers can be heard chuckling, presumably at the awkward moment. But within seconds the laughter turns to gasps as they reportedly witness the man being run over. Williams says his legs were crushed by the bus.
Williams was rushed to LSU Hospital with what the lawsuit calls life-threatening injuries.
In addition to the City of Shreveport the driver is also named in the suit, which states there was failure to provide any warning to the plaintiff that the bus would not allow his access and would instead drive away.
Williams is suing for damages related to impairment, disabilities, scarring and disfigurement.
City Attorney, Terri Scott says she has no comment pending the litigation. However, the city has filed an answer to the suit and denies the claims.
