Louisiana Tech stays undefeated in WAC play beating Texas St

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Louisiana Tech had 11 different players score, led by guard Cordarius Johnson with 17, as the Bulldogs took down Texas State 77-59 on Thursday night at Strahan Coliseum.

The victory marked LA Tech's fifth straight and they improved to 13-3 on the season and 4-0 in WAC play. The loss is the eighth straight for the Bobcats as they fall to 4-13 on the season and 0-5 in the WAC.

Both teams started off cold from the field, but the Bulldogs attacked the glass throughout the entire game, outrebounding the Bobcats 54-32 and picking up 23 second chance points.

As head coach Michael White went to his bench early and often, the ‘Dogs went into halftime with the starters scoring 20 points and the bench scoring 18 to take a 38-21 lead into the break.

In the second half, Texas State opened with a 16-5 run in the first four minutes to pull to within six, but Johnson got hot from the three-point line tying his career-high with five threes.

Two made free throws from Johnson with 6:44 to go pushed their largest lead of the game to 75-52 as the Bulldogs cruised to the win.

Guards Raheem Appleby (12) and Jaron Johnson (10) chipped in with double-digit points.

Forward Joel Wright led the Bobcats with a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they travel to take on the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m.
