Investigators have revealed that the skeletal remains that were found under the Spring Street overpass last month are those of a man who died of natural causes.
A DOTD crew examining bridges found the skeletal remains under Interstate 20 at the Spring Street overpass on Dec. 18. Shreveport homicide investigators and the Caddo Parish coroner examined the remains.
Caddo Coroner Todd Thoma also brought in forensic pathologist Mary Manheim from Baton Rouge to assist in the case. He said he believes the remains had been there for a long time.
The body was initially believed to be that of a homeless man. Thoma says the man was not homeless but was known to frequent the area under the overpass where homeless people live.
The man's identity will be announced pending DNA results.
