BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -
No power means no shopping as a power outage in Bossier Parish has forced Pierre Bossier Mall and surrounding stores to close shop early Wednesday evening.
As of 8:30 p.m. as many as 3,116 SWEPCO customers were without power in Bossier Parish, according to the SWEPCO outage map. This includes many of the stores, facilities and homes adjacent to the mall as well as throughout much of south Bossier City.
A worker at the Starbucks on Airline Drive across from the mall says that her store is without power, and much of the area is in darkness.
The outage likely is weather related, says SWEPCO spokesperson Kacee Kirschvink. A substation that feeds power to the mall is the source of the outage. But what exactly caused the substation to fail remains unknown. And without knowledge of what caused the substation to fail, there is no estimate as to when power to the mall and surrounding areas will be restored.
Bossier City Police spokesman Mark Natale reports no trouble with traffic and traffic lights. Only one intersection, Barksdale Boulevard at Panther Drive, has a traffic light that's out.
Caddo Parish has not been affected by the outage. Just 386 customers were without power as of 8 p.m.
