For the first time since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the Caddo Parish Schools Director of Security gave the school board a security briefing.
Roy Murray says that when looking at Caddo Parish schools, his biggest concern is controlling access to the buildings.
"Our schools were built for people to be able to walk onto campus. I had a meeting with the sheriff and the chief of police yesterday, and the sheriff said the campuses weren't meant to keep people out. What we have to do is find ways to keep people out the best we can," Murray says.
To do that, Murray suggests using fences to block off back entrances to the public and asking teachers to lock their classroom doors.
School board members also said they would like to see an armed law enforcement officer at every school. Now, only about half of the schools in Caddo Parish have school law enforcement officers.
