Many kids are heading back to school Monday morning and others will be heading back later this week. Our KSLA News 12 Cafeteria Report Card is back from break as well. The stack of health reports for all of the schools in Sevier County, Arkansas shows that all school cafeterias there had at least one violation.
De Queen High School served up 2 violations. They needed to clean out their ice machine drain so the water could drain properly. The water was pooling on the floor and damaging the tile. Their second violation is that they needed to clean and sanitize a can-opener and its base. That violation was corrected while the inspector was there.
De queen elementary school had 1 violation. They were not correctly labeling ready to eat items after thawing them out. There is a 7 day rule in school cafeterias, so labeling is necessary to make sure items do not stay in the cafeteria past their prime. De Queen Primary School had 1 violation, and it was corrected while the inspector was there. Their eggs were not stored on the lowest shelf.
Next, our menu takes us south of De Queen to a new campus in Horatio. Horatio High School is on Metcalf Road. Inspectors found 2 violations there. They needed to get trash cans for the facility and their ventilation hood was not working properly. When the inspector checked back with Horatio High, the ventilation hood was working properly. Moving to another school in that area, Horatio School didn't cut it. They dished out 3 violations. Deli meats that were open were not being date labeled or discarded after 7 days. This violation was corrected. They also needed to fix their restroom door, it was not self closing. Their third violation is that they needed to clean their floors in the storage area.
Now we head east to Lockesburg School. They cooked up 2 violations. They needed to repair leaks under their sink. Their second violation is that the ventilation hood needed to be repaired and working properly to keep the cafeteria workers safe. The inspector checked back with Lockesburg School and the equipment to fix the ventilation hood was in place.
