Death of man tased by Marshall PD under investigation

MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) -

Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a 32-year-old man after he was tased and arrested by Marshall police.

Police say officers were called to the area of East Houston Street and Scoggins Street at 8:26 p.m. Friday for a report of a disturbance.

When they arrived, they say they were confronted by an uncooperative nude black male, later identified as Marcus Dewayne Slade. A struggle ensued and Slade was tased. He was arrested for disorderly conduct, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Slade was taken to the Harrison County Sheriff's Jail, where he became unresponsive. An ambulance was requested at about 8:52 p.m.

Slade was pronounced dead by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Kenneth Alford. An autopsy has been ordered.
