No foul play suspected in Gladewater woman's death

Posted: Updated:

Gladewater Police Chief Farrell Alexander said no foul play is suspected in the death of 39 year old Heather Marie Holcomb.

Holcomb was reported missing early Thursday morning. She was later found dead in the 600 block of Gay Street.

Gladewater police tell us they were notified around 3 a.m. that Holcomb was missing. Police searched the area in the dark, but didn't find anything.

After the sun rose, authorities found Holcomb in a wooded area just half a block from where she was staying. Assistant Police Chief Clay Robertson said she suffered from mental problems.

"She did have some issues that she and the family members and the medical workers were trying to work her through," Robertson said.

After police found her, they secured the area, and the house where she was staying, then got the help of the Gregg County Sheriff's Department and a Texas Ranger.

"Any time you have an unattended death, you have to make sure you have everything collected and can make a proper determination of the cause of death," Robertson stated.

Police say she was found in her sleepwear and they didn't find any suspicious wounds.

Chief Alexander said Holcomb's autopsy report should be back in six to eight weeks.
