WASHINGTON (WTOC) -

From Congressman to Senator, Tim Scott, a republican from South Carolina, took the oath of office to join the U.S. Senate.

Scott was appointed to fill the Senate seat for Jim Demint, who resigned recently to lead a Washington think tank.

Scott's mother was on hand to see him sworn in and even held the bible while he took the oath. Scott was officially sworn in on the Senate floor, but took the oath a second time and posed for a picture with his family and Vice President Joe Biden.
