CLAIBORNE PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Two men suffered serious injuries when the pickup they were riding in flipped over, ejecting the driver and trapping the passenger inside.

Louisiana State Police Troop G investigators say Jodie Brazzel, 28, of Athens, was driving a 2004 Nissan Frontier about 9 p.m. Wednesday when the one-vehicle crash occurred on Hwy. 79 about 9 miles south of Hwy. 9 in Claiborne Parish.

Troopers say the pickup was traveling south on Hwy. 79 when it left the roadway to the left, struck a concrete culvert and overturned.

Brazzel was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash and was ejected. He received moderate injuries, troopers say.

The passenger, Barry Adkins, 50, of Minden, also was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash and was trapped in the pickup. Troopers say Adkins suffered life-threatening injuries.

Both Brazzel and Adkins were taken to a hospital.

Troopers say they suspect impairment is a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
