BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A member of the Baton Rouge Constable's Office left a small token of remembrance to the victims of the tragedy in Connecticut from the city when he visited there recently.
He also attended the funeral of a 7-year-old girl who died in the attack.
The Baton Rouge Constable's office sponsored the trip for the department's chaplain to visit Newtown, CT.
Deputy Phillip Syas attended a candlelight vigil in honor of the 26 victims of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
The office said Syas offered consolation to some of the townspeople and had a special prayer with the fire department.
He also visited the police department and some of the first responders.
Syas said the most emotional part of the trip was the funeral service for Josephine Gay.
On the last day of his visit to the town, Syas left flowers, balloons and a sign. He said it was meant to represent not only the constable's office, but the entire city of Baton Rouge.
