SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Despite the rain and cold weather, fans from across the region showed up at Independence Stadium in Shreveport to watch University of Louisiana-Monroe face off with Ohio University.
According to the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Visitor Bureau more than 42,000 tickets were sold for the game.
This weekend hotels in the local area are roughly 70 percent booked.
"Some clubs and restaurants are smart that are offering free admission, free drinks, if you bring in your I- bowl ticket," says Brandy Evans with the Visitors Bureau.
Riverside Warehouse in Downtown Shreveport is one of those Bars offering free admission with an I-Bowl Ticket.
"We've struggled for a while around Shreveport and downtown and I think that an outer influence especially with a college like UL Monroe, a lot of northern Louisiana could enjoy this show tonight," says Manager Blake Conrad.
Extra preparations have been made at the bar, such as extra staff and liquor to help accommodate the more than 400 people expected tonight.
The city of Shreveport says it costs about $50,000 to put on this event, and in the past the event has brought in almost $5.7 million in direct spending.
