Dec. 24th: KSLA News 12 Independence Bowl Editorial

In just a few days, the Advocare V-100 Independence Bowl will be played on a national stage from Independence Stadium in Shreveport. The Independence Bowl is important for all of us in the ArkLaTex .

Here's why:

First off, tens of thousands of visitors come to town. For many, it's the first time in our area. Hotel rooms are filled, restaurants are crowded, visitors stream into local stores and casinos. The economic impact is big.

Second, it's a four hour television event. It is our chance to shine brightly for a national television audience. For us to look good, the stadium needs to be filled with 45,000 fans.

If you haven't yet purchased your tickets, now is the time to do so. It's a great family event. Should be a good game. And you can do your part to make the 2012 Independence Bowl a success once again.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.

Be on the lookout for kids. They seem to dart out from everywhere. They are certainly not looking out for you; so please look out for them.
