Christmas tree recycling began in East Baton Rouge Parish the day after Christmas, but you still have to drop off the trees yourself for now.
Curbside pickup starts on Jan. 7 and lasts through Jan. 20.
You can drop off the trees at BREC parks, the LSU campus near the vet school or the Pecue Wood Recycling Facility.
Officials said make sure it is free of ornaments, decorations, lights and stands.
"They go to a facility that's our contractor for composting in the city-parish and they're ground up and turned into mulch and garden material," said Bob Dillemuth with the Baton Rouge Recycle Office. "Some of them are marketed throughout the garden industry and some of them we give back to the public through our mulch giveaways."
Also, large cardboard boxes can be flattened and put out by the road for pick up.
Wrapping paper is recycled, but tissue paper and foil paper are not.
